The Festival was the second international meeting of the project “E-volution: bringing Europe to another level”, after the one in Turin in July 2015, and it has been an amazing chance to go on exploring alternative visions of Europe and concepts related to cultures, identity and differences.
Participants had the opportunity to have a closer look on important issues for whole Europe, such as migrations and inclusion, thanks to the presence of several Greek organizations active on these aspects, like Arsis and Oikopolis.
During the weekend of the Festival, a part of the day was dedicated to activities carried out by every national group, involving the whole group of 40 participants. The Greek group led participants to reflect on stereotypes and social perception of difference, while the Italian group used performance techniques to express feelings and thoughts about Europe and its contradictions, seeing it as a machinery with different parts living together. The group from Barcelona chose a non-formal education activity/role play to highlight differences in access to rights and to reflect about social justice and inequalities. The Polish group gave the chance to get to know more Polish culture, language and traditions, cultural diversity in Poland, and also to analyze migration processes.
The main focus and tool of the Festival have been different kinds of art and creative practices, such as dance, collective performance, theatre techniques, music, all aimed to reflect about cultural diversity and its meaning, about how it is considered , how and if it is taken into account.
Cultural diversity was seen from different levels and perspectives. A very enriching moment was the Human Library session, during which participant and people from Thessaloniki had the chance to have a conversation with human books who shared their personal life stories, an impressive example of the importance of breaking discrimination barriers.
The E-volution project will go on in 2016 with local work and two more international meetings, one focused on volunteering in Warsaw and a Tool Fair in Barcelona.
