The association Comunità Impegno Servizio Volontariato (CISV) hosted this first meeting, to which ten participants from the four member countries of the project attended (Italy, Greece, Poland and Spain).
The aim of the seminar was to make a first approximation of the different realities of different societies represented in the project and share their vision of what Europe means to them, in the current context of economic and social crisis in Europe. Each organization contributed in different formats, with the results of the previous work on citizen perception regarding the image of Europe in their regions.
The seminar ended with a guided tour of various monuments of the Italian resistance during World War II, one of the foundations of the construction of the present European Union: the maintenance of peace and non-repetition of armed conflict on European soil . And, finally, a university researcher in contemporary history led an open discussion about the connections between European resistors, the European sentiment and Euro-skepticism.
The outcome of the seminar was very encouraging. Cultural and intergenerational differences of participants were an added value, enriched the different discussions and helped to establish a more holistic concept of Europe. The mix of cultural, social and intellectual activities, created an ideal working atmosphere to continue the project with greater force and enthusiasm.
